Citizens` participation is regarded as a method to enhance the efficiency of planning for the benefit of individuals by empowering them in the different phases of the planning process of cities. This research aims at studying how citizen participation can enter a new era of efficiency by integrating the capabilities of digital twins` technology with the citizens' participation procedures in the planning process. This research handles the topic in terms of three themes. The first theme handles the citizens` participation in the different stages of the city planning process. While the second theme handles the digital twin technology`s meaning and its main advantages as a new technology strated to take a wide range in the whole world. The third theme is investigating how digital twin`s technology can make the citizen`s participation process enter a new era with new capabilities. The research methodology is first studying the traditional methods of citizen participation, then studying the advantages and disadvantages of these methods; second, studying the methods of citizen participation with the digital twin technology and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods also. Then a comparison between the two methods is done in terms of the most effective keys of success of the citizen participation processes, which are accessibility, reach, engagement, time, data collection, visualization, cost, and data privacy. The research found that citizens` participation in the era of digital twins will be more effective and applicable.
